At some point discussing the past becomes stale or at least more stale than you portray it. When we talk about it it seems like such a big deal but you have to understand that discussing things that have already happened doesnt actually help you. Instead it causes action to be delayed.
Youve gained some weight since your surgery so Im sorry you didnt get the score you wanted but what are you going to do to improve it? Including when discussing prior achievements. Im glad youve shed a lot of pounds but what are you doing to make up for it?
Congratulations on selling your first product to a hungry market. I know that you’ve done remarkable things but who are you inspiring right now? This proves that a problem from the past is not a problem from the present.
Why should you make yourself relive those moments every day every month or every year when youve already experienced them? Do something now. In light of this advice it would be better to talk about new goals rather than old ones.
This is counterintuitive as well. It is useless to discuss either living in the past or attempting to live in the future. I used to constantly remind myself of this but until recently I dont think I ever paid much attention to it.
This is demonstrated by the fact that I frequently wrote about how difficult it was to deal with my past. High school insecurities family problems etc. Nevertheless I repeatedly told myself this as if to calm my conscience:.
Previous events have been resolved. Ive moved on a long time ago. .
. “It will be much better in the future. Im eager to get there.
. I thought I would be able to move on if I told myself this enough times. But ultimately I wasnt able to get past these snags because of that.
Something I believe most of us forget when attempting to move past the past but it did help me: I zipped my lips on what I couldnt currently control. Which statement has greater value? Do I have a job in mind or will I find one?
Have I spent six hours practicing or am I still practicing? Take action now by using your present choice. The decisions you make today have the power to erase the past.
Does your past failure give you the right to believe that it will happen again? No it doesnt. You can decide to use your prior teaching experience as a guide to help you succeed.
You can also decide to stay inert and fix your attention on what has already been completed. Choice is crucial in life as it is in most other aspects. Youve already got the ball.
Editors Note: I had a post ready to publish on Monday but I decided to delete it because I didnt like it. It was in the end unoriginal and not worth publishing in the first place in my opinion.
I apologize to everyone who shared the post just before I sent it into the deep web.
