Being genuinely indispensable is the only way to guarantee that you will lead a sustainable life for the remainder of your time on this planet. But what does it mean to be indispensable in a valuable way? You must be valuable meaning that you are worth something. You must be so valuable that it would be foolish to not hire you or recommend you. This is known as necessity. There are two options. Two kinds of workers exist in this world.
The first kind is an employees normal worker bee. In the hopes of one day becoming the boss he tries to win over the boss. In an attempt to win a gold star from the man upstairs he would almost consider jumping off a bridge. This guy asks how high when the boss says to jump. When the boss gives him instructions he completes the task or files the document on time. The only thing the worker bee can do is freak out when the boss orders him to do what he believes is best. The boss yells back Figure it out!
What do you think I hired you for? while all he can manage is Arent you supposed to tell me what to do? . The situation of the worker bee is this. The second category of workers is incredibly uncommon. We will give the valuable artist to him. Although he is a very creative and experienced person this man is not particularly artistic in hindsight.
He doesnt have any distinguishing traits that set him apart from the typical worker bee. He might not be as stylish as gregarious or even as attractive. Looking him in the eye while he works however will reveal who he is. When he goes into overdrive he becomes an unstoppable force that cannot be ignored. Observe the worker bee at work and the priceless artist at work. There is a huge difference. Step by step the worker bee will complete everything with diligence and efficiency never deviating from the lines in the slightest.
You will never catch him taking the chance but occasionally he will feel the need to do something his way. His life—no his job—is at stake. To wait until another day he tells his inner artist. But the valuable artist wont let you down this time. His only need is to produce the greatest piece of art imaginable so he doesnt ask for rules. In every task that is assigned to him he goes above and beyond the call of duty. In addition to creating work he aspires to innovate.
Every day is an opportunity for him to accomplish something extraordinary. The valuable artist is of course not popular. In actuality a lot of people live to hate him. The office walls are filled with cries such as Why hasnt he been fired yet? That wasnt what the boss wanted! Why does the boss like him so much? Hes too unconventional!
. A teachers pet. . . But he is unable to hear them. All he can think about are the thousands of ideas he wants to try test and experiment with! This is the exceptional life of the priceless artist.
the decisive moment. Eventually however things will change for both the valuable artist employees and the worker bee. This day will permanently alter their lives. The boss is going to summon them both to his office on this day. He will request that the worker bee enter first. He will comply since he is happy to do anything for the boss. He takes a seat and waits impatiently for the good news of a big pay increase or promotion.
The boss is going to give a speech outlining the worker bees contributions to the company. Im sorry Worker Bee will be the bosss dependable final words after what seems like an endless conversation. I must let you leave. . Unable to even look his once honorable master in the eye the worker bee storms out. What can he hope to achieve without a bosss guidance? He deliberates for a while.
The valuable artist is called in once the worker bee has left the building. The manager asks him to take a seat. The priceless artist is seated prepared for whatever the boss may bring. He is already aware of the response. The boss asks Do you know why youre here? . The creator responds Yes it is because you want to fire me.
. No in fact. You are mine to keep. One of the people I need to keep this business afloat is you. Im unable to let you go. . .
Our artist is not swayed. Thank you sir he responds. I appreciate you letting me continue working for the company for this length of time. I now know that I am capable of doing quality work. However I fear that I cannot permit myself to remain. . The boss soon becomes confused and agitated.
Wh-What did you say? I need you on this team. . . I can no longer work for you sir even though youve given me a lot of wonderful opportunities. For me being creative means the world. On my own I feel like I can accomplish so much more amazing things the artist says.
They both fall into a profound silence. They exchange glances for a brief moment. In the eyes of the valuable artist the boss briefly sees himself. The desire to grow that was concealed in those eyes has just now been revealed. I understand the boss says. Good luck sir. Also thank you.
. Uncertain of whether he made the right choice the priceless artist ventures out into the world with his canvas. It doesnt matter in the end though. Though the months ahead will not be easy you can be sure that he is aware of his passion his path and his end. He is unable to fail. Even better he wont permit it.
