From This Day Forth, I Live As a Minimalist

From This Day Forth, I Live As a Minimalist

Ive been noticing lately that I dont actually need many of the things I once believed to be essential. When I think back on my early years many memories surface. Actually now is the ideal moment for me to share my own minimalist tale. Back to a time when there was plenty. My mother once gave my older sister and I $300 apiece as I recall.

This was because she wanted to pay us back in full after using some of the money we saved to enroll in college courses. She let us use it however we pleased. Being seven years old and in possession of that much money astounded me. Since my last name is Anyasor its kind of funny that I was so obsessed with dinosaurs at the time. Unfortunately $300 wasnt enough for my sisters telescope so I had to give her some of my money so I made the impulsive decision to buy a ton of dinosaur toys.

I believed it to be the greatest choice I had ever made at the time. Among my favorites I would switch between my green Velociraptor my brown Tyrannosaurus and my gray Allosaurus every few days. Id imagine them going on a rampage and stomping through our familys small apartment complex. And I felt fortunate for a while. However after a few weeks I realized that I was growing tired of them.

I was having trouble coming up with new ideas. I was not satisfied with any of these dinosaur toys despite their abundance. There was just one way out of it. To get more. Fast-forward to a minimalist lifestyle.

Since I realized that I kept accumulating more pointless items without ever achieving the happiness I had promised myself I have long since given up on my love of owning these archaic trinkets. Leo Babauta Jeffrey Tang and Everett Bogue are among the bloggers who have helped me realize that I dont actually need as much as I believe I do. Ive discovered that with the exception of food and clothing everything Ive been purchasing more of can be completely avoided. In order to begin living a more minimalist lifestyle I will reduce my consumption of these items. 1.

games on video. Do not misunderstand I adore video games. Some video games genuinely make me feel the way well-executed art should. But far too many of the games leave me feeling completely depressed. There is no reason for me to spend money on a game if it lacks the gameplay and narrative that I look for in games.

As time goes on you can expect me to play games much less. 2. clothing. Sincerely I dont like clothing. After all they are merely objects that prevent me from being nude.

I dont really need that many new clothes but theres nothing wrong with getting them occasionally. A modest assortment of shirts shoes socks and jeans is more than enough. 3. extra distractions. This includes anything else that diverts my attention.

Twitter Facebook email and so on. generally are a waste of time. It can become a rather intense habit to constantly check for updates. It is worthwhile to devote more time to these activities. 1.

First and foremost I am a writer so it is essential that I hone this skill as much as possible. I enjoy writing so why not devote more time to it? 2. Reading: I cant emphasize enough how important it is that we read more. This summer Im looking forward to reading a ton of books mostly from Seth Godins books and the Four Hour Work Week.

3. Learning: For me the process of learning is also crucial. It fosters personal development and increases our understanding of the world. Learning Spanish and Igbo (my native Nigerian language) is something Ive always wanted to do. 4.

I havent even touched the surface of living yet. I feel like I should be enjoying life to the fullest at the age of 19. The list of things I havent done is enormous. Ive traveled abroad on my own before. Ive never even experienced love before.

An increase in life experiences is a good way to replace the clutter of pointless items. At this point I declare that I will lead a minimalist life. To be honest I havent counted everything I own so I dont think Im ready to own just fifty items. But rather than living a life filled with more I will choose to live with less. Feel free to follow this path as well I predict a great deal more happiness along it.
